Oka spent 18 years in the U.S. before returning to Tokyo in 2015.

Oka has served as an Independent Director of publicly traded NEC Corporation (NEC) since 2022, where he chairs the Compensation Committee and serves on the Nominating Committee. NEC’s stock price has more than quadrupled since he joined the Board. He joined leading enterprise software investment firm Vista Equity Partners’ Advisory Board in 2023, and Bain & Company’s Global Advisory Council in 2024, representing Asia-Pacific in both organizations. In 2025, he joined UBS Group as Senior Advisor to UBS Securities Japan.

Oka began his association with Sony Financial Group (SFG) in 2019 as an Independent Director and chair of the Compensation Committee of the public holding company, becoming President & CEO in 2020. SFG was taken private via a tender offer by Sony Group Corporation (SGC) later that year. During his tenure, he enhanced SFG’s enterprise value, positioning it for an IPO and spinoff in September 2025. He transitioned to a Senior Advisor role for both SGC and SFG in 2023, continuing through 2024.

At publicly traded Nikon Corporation, Oka served as Senior Executive Vice President & CFO (2016–2020), initiating and leading a major restructuring and global investor relations program that elevated the company’s performance and stock value significantly. He was voted “Best CFO” in the industry by Institutional Investor for three consecutive years.

Oka’s career with Mitsubishi Bank, later MUFG, spanned 37 years. As CEO of Union Bank (2010–2014) and CEO for The Americas of MUFG (2012-2014), he led a successful restructuring and integration of MUFG’s Americas operations, and became Executive Chairman of MUFG Americas Holdings Corporation in 2014. In 2013, Oka became the first Japanese executive to appear on the cover of American Banker Magazine when Union Bank was voted the most reputable bank in the nation, winning by the widest margin in the history of the award.

Oka holds a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Law from The University of Tokyo. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1986. The extended Oka family resides in Tokyo.
